FIRE PREVENTION AND FIREWISE SERVICES FOR WHIDBEY ISLAND

PROTECTING YOUR PROPERTY USING

FIRE PREVENTION FORESTRY AND FIREWISE PRACTICES

According to The Washington State Department of Natural Resources, each year wildland fires consume homes in the wildland-urban interface. This is defined as areas where homes are built near or among lands prone to wildland fire. Studies show that as many as 80 percent of homes lost to wildland fire may have been saved if brush around the homes were cleared and defensible space created around structures.

Utilizing forestry mulching to assist in fire prevention and protect your property is an important service we provide property owners. Travis Crabb has extensive experience working with, and for, the Department of Natural Resources to accomplish this goal.

What is "firewise" forestry mulching? This is a term used to describe the reduction of fuel surrounding a dwelling by limiting the amount of flammable vegetation and materials surrounding the structure, and increasing the moisture content of remaining vegetation. The structure, and everything around it up to 100 – 200 feet, is known as the ‘home ignition zone. In areas across the country where the risk of wildfire is high, the home ignition zone extends up to 200 feet beyond the structure.

Our work helps reduce the risk of fire destroying your valuable possessions.
